Description

Aaand this one, the painting for August (sister-to-the-queen.deviantart… ) concludes the fanart for Anno Domini by the ever-wonderful Sister-to-the-Queen (sister-to-the-queen.deviantart… ) . What a journey this has been since September! ... whoever thought I'd only finish it by the turn of August/September.

Aand now, a bit uncharacteristically for this story's illustrating, I'm flooding you with little notes about the picture - since I've spent 6.5 hours on it. Sis-to-Q: you can compare it with the results of your own detai-hunt, which I know you would do anyway :)
1. The title? It's from soundtraxk Nr. 2, Jewel in the Night, to be more exact, its ending. I think it fits the ending of the story perfectly :) (However, while painting, soundtrack Nr. 1. was on continuous replay. That is such a beautiful melody, and I remember it was playing during the making of the first illustration, and everything had been so different back then, and this is a wonderful full circle.) ((Oh, and I totally forgot about the Chapter saying Pestilence was in yellowed robe, so I went with the dirty brown and green stuff I painted him in the lst time.))
2. What is it? The closing scene - from Pestilence's perspective, who's trying to peer up at the wonder in the sky. (So that's why everything isn't upside-down.)
3. I tried to adjust the colors to the source of light, somewhat - hence the bluish shades and the darkening towards the bottom. However, when the paint dried, the contrast wasn't as sharp as I'd planned... Oh well. Still better than nothing, and not too bad for a first attempt, I think.
4. No one's showing any supernatural aspect - there are two "unitiated' beings around, after all.
5. Chubby rosy angel is chubby and rosy. Also, in awe. Also, in tartan. Also, in need of a new wardrobe.
6. Demon dear is holding angel dear's hand :) And shielding his eyes from the lihgt/phenomenon with his other hand. Actually, I don't know if Crowley's doing this because he's a demon thus not really built to withstand a Christ's-birthday-kid-of-miracle, or because he thinks he's not built to withstand it.
7. Brian is elbowing Pollution to look up. What the heck.
8. Mr & Mrs Youngg pretty much can't be seen behind the tree. That's because I have even less of a mental image of them than of the Them, and also because this many beings were hard enough to fit around the Christmas palm tree.
9. Famine is resting a hand on Wensley's shoulder. Er. I thought it would be a nice gesture? Also, he's holding War's hand, even if it can barely be seen.
10. Although the catfight didn't pass without consequences (as Red's torn dress shows), she and pepper are also holding on to each other (waist/shoulder).
11. Well, I out Adam's hands like that to have something common in the family. I might have painted over too much of his parents to let it show.
12. Paint a breathtaking miracle I don't even know the exact nature of? Easy-peasy. Paint Azrael in a form that passes for mostly normal human? Hardest task ever. Seriously. Out of all this company, he was the most difficult to imagine... I couldn't help but make him still abnormally tall, wearing strange, long, loose, almost cloak-like clothes. And with something like dark golden hair. It should be a fraction of a beautiy from before time. Then again, I can't paint, so it's just a bunch of yellowish lines. :S
13. Well, it's quite obvious what other things I'm a fan of besides Good Omens and its fanfictions. Van Gogh paintings and Doctor Who episodes (see the picture of the exploding TARDIS they put on the show). Just look at the sky I made... Since I still don't know what they saw up there (*argh*), I went witht he idea of a star appearing, bright as an explodins supernova, colorful as a rainbow, magical enough to change the properties of the whole atmosphere.

Enjoy, as I have enjoyed every word of Anno Domini!

aaaah final piece of Anno Domini fanart wheeeeee

*pours water over self*

*listens to music to somewhat cool down*

*not working*

Who cares! PAINT EXTRAVAGANZA! Wheeeeeeeeee!

Ahem.

Okay, I have to take this point by point and add my comments point by point or this will turn into another dreadful mess. Let's go. ... Yay little notes! So many little notes! *cuddles them*

1. Eeee yes it is so perfect I cannot thank you enough for telling me about it it is beautiful. *clap clap* (Aww, honey, really? You did? That is so sweet. And so much has changed since that one snaky cuddle. And I get the feeling I have an unconscious thing for full circles.) ((Hey, no problem! Against that palm tree, he is in camouflage clothing. And those white things are his hands, yes? Wow, he's as pale as Pollution, just a bit greyer.))
2. So Pestilence is bending his neck forward as much as he can? Must be pret-ty creaky, given his state of unhealth.
3. Actually, a faint contrast like this is better than a sharp one: starlight is soft light.
4. Aaaand what would this scene look like with supernatural aspects? Please tell me, as my imagination is going places. *eager* (Also, 'unitiated beings'. Best. Phrase. Ever.
5. Chubby and rosy! In awe! And tartan! Awesome tartan! (<-- I am so clever.) And green trousers. But. New wardrobe? Crowley would have a fit. And (figuratively) kill us both for even suggesting it.
6. ... Okay, now it's my turn: *melts* He was, you know. But still, seeing it here like this, both drawn and typed out, well... *puddle* My, my, funny you should mention his belief as to whether or not he can take Christ-related matters... *hums* Teasing you? Who, me?
7. Fantastic, that's what the heck. Pollution's so out there and was, at the same time, so focused on the Putty that he really did need a nudge to notice what was going on. You are brilliant.
8. I think I can make out a bit of Mr Young's shoulder there. (Me, I picture Mr Young as wearing a watch chain. I just do. And Mrs Young wears a pearl necklace.)
9. Very nice. They've all bonded with their former enemies, after all. Standing against a common enemy, plus fun and games afterwards, will do that. (Holding hands here too, hmmm? Hmmmm. ♪)
10. *happiness* And you tore her dress! Yay for important detail!
11. *stares at the area immediately around the tree again* Nnnno, can't see anything like hands. But Adam's look good!
12. He's beautiful. Nothing more to it, he's beautiful. Both here and as a skeleton. Anyone denies this, they don't know what they're saying.
13. And finally. The crowning point, in more ways than one. The sky. Marvellous, radiant skyscape. It looks to me like it's reaching out living rays, to protect those looking up at it right here, right now, on that rooftop. It's so vast, and it's on fire, but it's not a fire that would burn, it's a fire that warms and cools at the same time. That is just... just. (And you know, it's actually rather close to the vague mental image I'd pieced together. In that one, many individual stars are slowly turning, in a many-armed spiral and with a sound like the infinitely distant thundering of great wheels, that you can only hear if you hold your breath and there's not another sound around you, all turning around that one, central Star. Less like a nova than like a... like a... like an uncountable number of diamonds on a setting of dark-blue velvet, only alive. And if all the stars are somehow angels... I don't think I'm making sense anymore. Oh dear.) It's... What you've drawn, it feels like, because I have to say it better than I did, like a great universal guardian angel. But it's not an angel. Remember when you told me you believed Eve was love? That. ... *ding* Well, well. If I didn't just have an idea... Ohhh, but this is gold.

I do! I do I do I do! I am aware that my comment style is a bit zany tonight. It's that I've been deciphering Akkadian literally all day till ten o'clock just now, and I'm feeling rather funny in the head. I do hope it hasn't bothered you too much.
